This is an elegant Elizabethan style antique stained glass window circa 1880 with a couple of cracks in the border pieces. It features a shield design of blue, green, purple and amber with brown slag glass border. A new rustic wood frame has been added.
Slag glass, also known as marble glass or malachite glass, is a type of opaque, streaked pressed glass. Production of slag glass originated in late-19th-century England, where glass manufacturers are thought to have added slag from iron-smelting works to molten glass to create a range of effects—from tortoiseshell to marbling. The variations in color and depth that slag glass provides make this style of glass ideal for windows and lamps, providing privacy in windows yet allowing light into rooms.
