Passage Function:
A handle set without an internal locking mechanism. A passage set is used on a door that doesn't require privacy, for example; between a living room and a kitchen or closet.
Privacy Function:
A handle set with a locking mechanism., usually a pin or button on the door plate or rosette, with a hole on the reverse side for emergency unlocking. The privacy pin is the button that engages the privacy feature on the latch from the interior side of the rosette. Can be disengaged in an emergency by inserting a narrow object (like the end of a paperclip) into the emergency release hole on the exterior rosette.
Dummy Function:
Dummy sets have no latch and require no bore hole. They are surface mounted to the door so you can install a dummy set wherever you choose. They can be secured to the rosette and to the door with a supplied Allen wrench.
CF Function:
The Concealed Fastener (CF) Mechanism is an upgrade option that provides a cleaner look, with no visible screws on the interior rosette of passage and privacy knobs or levers. A standard CF mechanism fits doors 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" but can be sent with an extension kit for thicker doors if this is noted at the time the order is placed.
All CF Mechanism upgrades also include a dust box for the jamb. Handing is not required on levers with CF, which also come with a 28 degree latch (vs the standard 45 degree latch) upgrade. CF Knobsets come with a standard latch.
