This is an antique oak heat grate or register with a classic grid design. This has very strong construction. Wooden grid strips are solid from top surface to the underside. (We usually see them as laminate applied to a thinner structure.)
Registers such as this are used to cover holes in walls or floors for use with forced air heating systems.

This register is in good condition. There is some surface rusting and wear from years of use, but that can be cleaned off.
No louvers included.
