This is a wrought iron Norfolk style thumblatch door handle with a rooster comb top design with original finish and cast handle. The Norfolk style of latch was originally designated by architectural draughtsman William Twopenny in Norfolk, England. The design of a Norfolk style latch includes a single solid backplate on which is a curved handle. The scalloped top and bottom is a common design of a Norfolk latch. This interior handle set would be appropriate for use on an interior door. While there is no date on this handle these were widely used from the late 18th through mid-19th centuries. This does not include the inside bar latch or keeper.
