Antique Cleminson's Pottery Decorator Hanging Fruit Plate Pair - Circa 1943
This is an Antique Item
Set of 2 fruit wall plates depicting plum and pear. No chips or crazing. Ribbon for hanging, but wire has been added to be more secure. Green Cleminsons Stamp on back of each plate.
A California company, Cleminson Pottery, opened its doors in 1941. George and Betty Cleminson began their pottery business in their garage. Along with pie birds, they also made other kitchenware items. Betty's pie birds were folksy and mostly a rooster in soft colors. In 1943, “Cleminson Clay” morphed into the catchier “The California Cleminsons”. “Piece work” was now a thing of the past, but Cleminson decorators continued to be given free rein within a basic color palette, (muted pastels on a cream background), which is why no two Cleminson pieces are exactly alike.
This antique item is in very good condition with normal wear for a piece of this age, no major or noticeable defects or damage.
