Interior steel faced Corbin mortise door lock. An interior mortise lock is a lock which is used on an interior door that has been cut with a pocket or hole into which the lock is to be fitted. Interior mortise locks commonly include a doorknob hub, through which a doorknob spindle is installed and doorknobs are mounted on each side and secured into place with pins or set screws; and a keyhole which accommodates an old-fashioned bit or skeleton key which in turn throws the deadbolt to lock and unlock the door. Mortise locks have specific dimensions including backset, the measurement from the edge of the faceplate (the strip that shows when the mortise lock is installed in the door) to the center of the doorknob hub; and spacing, the measurement from the center of the doorknob hub to the center of the round part of the keyhole. The dimensions were not standardized in the 19th century so it is important to note the dimensions of your door prior to purchasing a mortise lock.

P. & F. Corbin originated in 1849 when brothers Philip and Frank Corbin, and Edward Doen established the firm of Doen, Corbin & Co., to manufacture ox balls. The company's name changed to P. & F. Corbin in 1851. In the last half of the 19th century they broadened their products to include coffin trimmings, knobs, and stove handles. In 1868 they began specializing in the manufacture of builder's hardware and locks. From this period through 1900 the company produced some of the finest brass and bronze builder’s hardware on the market, in a wide array of finishes and styles in the latest fashions. In 1902 the company merged with Russwin to form The American Hardware Corporation.

Great find

Most catalogs & stores sell wood knobs of cherry, oak, maple, & sometimes pine. Solid, unfinished walnut is hard to find. Historic Houseparts sells these. They are well made, no defects, & come with screws. Company service is excellent, delivery prompt, exactly as advertised. Highly recommended.

Great candles!

I purchased these candle covers to replace the ugly gold ones on my dining room chandelier. They make my 15 year old chandelier look like new!

PERFECT

So glad to learn about these awesome little tools to help save my walls in my 100 year old house! My large framed art hangs solidly on my walls without dinging them up or leaving nasty holes. What's more, it beats pounding several holes in the walls, should I change my mind about where I want things hung. Thanks!

Stunningly beautiful

Extremely pleased. We needed a narrow piece on the receptor side because of modern doubled glazed windows, and this fit the bill perfectly. Had to search a long time to find this piece and so glad I found it here, at last. Looks absolutely gorgeous and original in our Edwardian home. Highly recommend! Quality and function is outstanding. Had questions about the item and got prompt and thorough response; great customer service. Would gladly order again.

Exactly what we needed

We had acquired 2 original 1930s dressers which had Bakelite handles that were hopelessly worn out beyond repair. We needed a replacement that would not only fit the style but also the color. These worked perfectly in all respects. The pieces look beautiful and the handles honored the 30s Art Deco style. They are also good quality and well made.

Bathroom Door Pulls

For the French doors on our new bathroom, it was a challenge to find the right door knobs. We wanted a deep blue to match a Turkish ornament in the floor. These knobs were just the right color. As it turned out, using them as door pulls was the right idea, and we love them!
