Interior cast iron and Chrome Faceplate Sargent "Easy Spring" double thumbturn mortise door lock. An interior privacy mortise lock is a lock which is used on an interior door that has been cut with a pocket or hole into which the lock is to be fitted. Interior mortise locks commonly include a doorknob hub, through which a doorknob spindle is installed and doorknobs are mounted on each side and secured into place with pins or set screws; and a thumbturn hub which accommodates an thumbturn which in turn throws the deadbolt to lock and unlock the door. Mortise locks have specific dimensions including backset, the measurement from the edge of the faceplate (the strip that shows when the mortise lock is installed in the door) to the center of the doorknob hub; and spacing, the measurement from the center of the doorknob hub to the center of the hub for the thumbturn. The dimensions were not standardized in the 19th century so it is important to note the dimensions of your door prior to purchasing a mortise lock.

In 1810, Joseph Bradford Sargent and his brothers operated a wholesale hardware business in New York City, and later bought out one of their suppliers, Peck and Walter Manufacturing Company of New Britain, CT. In 1864, they moved the factory to New Haven to be closer to the sea for shipping and the delivery of materials. The first New Haven location was owned by such historical icons as Benedict Arnold, Eli Whitney, and the Fulton Steamboat Company. Sargent & Company of New Haven, Conn., produced and sold planes for an eighty year period from 1884 to 1964. By 1914, the Sargent product catalog listed some 60,000 different items, making it one of the largest hardware manufacturing plants in America.

Glass Door Knob/Door Plate

Fantastic service, very easy to shop for antique and historic parts (sizes are viewable with the pictures!). Screws came with the door plate and made installation very easy. We are very glad these folks are in business. I will look for more historic parts for our 90+ year old house.

Beautiful!

So happy with these beautiful knobs! We wanted our bathroom to have a special flair and these cabinet pulls completed the look perfectly. A little smaller than we expected, but still a perfect complement to the look we wanted.

Great item!

Perfect piece for the icebox I refinished that came out of my childhood home! Made the icebox look like it did when it came out of the factory.

The best for antique hardware replacement!

Bought for antique wooden storms missing the hook part and are perfect for huge heavy, wooden storm windows. Hook part fits bottom part already attached for hanging. Could not be any more perfect!

Excellent product & customer service

Despite being backordered, I received my knobs with a fairly quick turnaround. They are heavy and well-made. I'm very happy with these in our kitchen!

Just perfect

I can't recommend this bin pull highly enough. Solid, heavy feel and beautiful shape and finish. The polished nickel looks far more expensive than it is. These were the perfect smaller scale for our drawers in our updated "vintage" kitchen of our 1923 Craftsman home. So glad to find these!

Perfect addition to any home

I got this piece to go along with our turn that we also purchased and this is absolutely beautiful. Easy install and a wonderful, historically accurate addition to my home.

Good Product

Our brand new porcelain sink developed cracks almost immediately after install. The cracks then flaked off until we were left with deep, wide cracks. We needed a filler as part of the repair. This was a Godsend! It went on perfectly. We had to do several applications to fill in the damage, but it was worth it. Highly recommend if you need to fill.
