Interior decorative steel faced Norwalk mortise door lock with thumbturn. An interior privacy mortise lock is a lock which is used on an interior door that has been cut with a pocket or hole into which the lock is to be fitted. Interior mortise locks commonly include a doorknob hub, through which a doorknob spindle is installed and doorknobs are mounted on each side and secured into place with pins or set screws; and a thumbturn hub which accommodates an thumbturn which in turn throws the deadbolt to lock and unlock the door. Mortise locks have specific dimensions including backset, the measurement from the edge of the faceplate (the strip that shows when the mortise lock is installed in the door) to the center of the doorknob hub; and spacing, the measurement from the center of the doorknob hub to the center of the hub for the thumbturn. The dimensions were not standardized in the 19th century so it is important to note the dimensions of your door prior to purchasing a mortise lock.

The Norwalk Lock Company constructed their South Norwalk, CT factory in 1856 and built 14 subsequent additions through 1941. They created some of the most intricately designed bronze and brass hardware on the market from the 1860’s through the turn of the century. In 1929, they sold the controlling interest in the company to the Segal Lock and Hardware Company.

Hinges

We are renovating our house in Redondo Beach, a 100 year old beach bungalow that was stuccoed. We re-faced the exterior to shingles (previously clapboard) and we are keeping the plastered walls and putting your hinges on all of the interior doors. Thanks!

High Quality Authentic Appearing Cabinet Knob

Like so many of the repros at Historic Houseparts, this repro is VERY authentic appearing & high quality. Nothing available elsewhere at even close the price.

Stunningly beautiful

Extremely pleased. We needed a narrow piece on the receptor side because of modern doubled glazed windows, and this fit the bill perfectly. Had to search a long time to find this piece and so glad I found it here, at last. Looks absolutely gorgeous and original in our Edwardian home. Highly recommend! Quality and function is outstanding. Had questions about the item and got prompt and thorough response; great customer service. Would gladly order again.

Good selection...and fast!

The plates look great on our door. Thanks for shipping so fast and for the great and personal service.

Wow factor

We bought an Art Deco vanity table, that had ordinary round brown wooden knobs. We replaced those knobs with these Bakelite knobs. The look now catches our eyes and has upped the Wow factor of the piece in our bedroom.

Door Knob Spindle

This worked perfectly. Exactly as it should have. I was so shocked to find it online and so inexpensive. I had looked at antique dealers who wanted $20 or more for an old rusty one and I got it here for less than $4. Thank you so much!

great hinges

I mistakenly ordered the brushed nickel hinges and called the company right after ordering to change it to the polished nickel hinges. They were awesome in correcting my order and I am thrilled with the quality! I am very impressed and will use them again. So happy I was able to match the hinges I already had for my camper.

Just perfect

I can't recommend this bin pull highly enough. Solid, heavy feel and beautiful shape and finish. The polished nickel looks far more expensive than it is. These were the perfect smaller scale for our drawers in our updated "vintage" kitchen of our 1923 Craftsman home. So glad to find these!
