Heins and LaFarge and the Creation of Subway Tile

To stand up to the dirt and grime of a bustling, growing city, and to beautify the otherwise gloomy subway tunnels, architects George C. Heins and Christopher Grant LaFarge used a glossy white ceramic tile to protect and decorate the walls of the New York City Subway.

All tile will be shipped from the vendor directly to your provided address. If it is in stock it is a 7-10 business day lead time. Several of the glaze options are not stocked and could take 2-6 weeks depending on the lead time of the vendor's warehouse. Please contact us to get a more exact timeframe for your selected finish. Usually the gloss white, avalon, bone, and gloss black are in stock, but please call to check. Please email us for lead times and shipping quotes.

Please Note: Gloss glazes react differently with non-flat tile surfaces which causes an alternative beautiful handmade appearance. The caps below demonstrate an accent glaze on our decorative caps as an example for you.

New plumbing items or new floor and wall tile returned within 60 days are subject to a 20% restocking fee. Floor and wall tile and some new plumbing items should be returned to different addresses than our store. Please call us at 888.558.2329 or 585.325.2264 to get the correct address to return these items to and a RGA form. If these items are returned to our store, additional shipping fees will be applied to the refund amount. Some custom/special order tile is not returnable.
