This is an elegant and exceptional gas & electric fixture with intricate casting detail in the body and beautiful original opalescent swirl shades, ruffled on the edge on the smaller electric shades. We have electrified the gas arms on this unusual fixture. The original gas units are patented October 20, 1908 by the Welsbach Company, who had factories in Gloucester, NJ and Columbus, OH. The Welsbach gas valves were inverted, which was very unusual and cutting-edge technology back in the day. Most combination gas & electric fixtures will have upward-facing gas valves and downward-facing electric sockets. The reason for these combination fixtures was due to the unreliable nature of the delivery of electricity to homes in the early days of electricity, so combination fixtures were sold to ensure that light would still be available even if the electric went out, which happened frequently.
Dimensions: This light measures 26" wide at the widest point, and has a 36" drop at the longest point.
This light is in excellent condition, the original finish has been cleaned and clear coated and the wiring has been redone using UL listed parts. Maximum wattage if using incandescent light bulbs, please do not exceed 60 watts. If using LED or CFL bulbs you may use a higher wattage. We recommend having this light fixture installed by a licensed electrician to ensure your safety.
