An antique pair of large horsehair plaster corbels. These corbels are finely decorated with acanthus leaves and floral elements. Hair was used in plaster as a binding medium, and gives tenacity to the material. Traditionally horsehair was the most commonly used binder, as it was easily available before the development of the motor car. Only one pair available, one of the corbels has lost part of its decoration as shown in the photo.
Approximate size 21” wide by 34” tall by 13” deep.
Good condition: showing minor signs of wear to finish but no excessive damage to the structure. One of the corbels has lost some of its decoration as shown in the photo.
